    I love my Qor. The reason Qor' s PY150 is less dark in masstone than some other brands is simply because its not made with as high pigment load. PY150 is so powerful and strong, you hardly need any to get a strong bright yellow. I love it. My Schmincke PY150 is even less brownish. That's because that brand makes all their pigments to work harmoniously with each other in balance as much as possible. So one pigment won't easily over power another. I love my Schmincke too.

    • @GlendaVGarcia
      @GlendaVGarcia 28 днів тому

      That's so interesting! Just goes to show that formula has a big impact on colours! You'd think we would always prefer high pigment load but it makes sense that we sometimes might not! I know I normally dislike Phthalo Blues because they are much too staining and intense for my taste but I've tried a couple that were definitely not as pigmented as other brands and I could almost see myself using those! Thanks for the comment!

      I know! I gave up on Starbucks years ago to feed my art materials addiction... Worth every missed Frappuccino or other froufrou drink! But you definitely do not need any of the big palettes. Just choose a couple of colours you'd like to try, it's always a huge risk to buy such a large set without having tried them previously.

      Thank you so much 😊 Since I didn't film those paintings, and I did them from photograhs comfortably from home, it was in fact a much less stressful experience since all I cared about was the painting! I don't know how all the other youtubers do it! Filming and painting and publishing new videos all the time! It takes me 2 full days to edit a single video, and painting is just a hobby of mine, I do it so I can un-stress and keep my creative juices flowing! But I like to share what I learn and the materials I try out because I know I am curious every time a new brand or colour comes out.

    I love how you swatch like I do to see all the ranges of the color. I have seen people do really heavy swatches and it looks bad for the watercolor because you do not see the transparency that we all love about watercolor.

    • @GlendaVGarcia
      @GlendaVGarcia 28 днів тому

      Thank you so much for noticing! I also prefer watching larger graded washes. I understand why many people don't bother because the swatches are more meant for themselves as reference but I know as I viewer it is very frustrating to only see mass-tones! 🎨

    Can I ask you how do you manage to use the art Graf tin without getting it rusted? I have to carry it now open to avoid getting it stuck

    • @GlendaVGarcia
      @GlendaVGarcia 28 днів тому

      I dry it out before closing back and otherwise I probably have just been lucky? Montreal is pretty humid but maybe climate might affect rust formation. I have noticed a bit of rust forming at the interior edges of the cap and am thinking of using some type of oil to see if I can prevent more rusting, that or some clear nail polish. I'll try to update you on which one I try in case it works out or not. Or maybe I should do some research to see what the suggestions might be. Now I'm worried about my tin!

      I like Potters, Morellone, Haikaido Orange, unsure about YInMn since it's so expensive, Copper Blue is so pretty and soft, but easily overtaken by all the other colours, same with Zirconium Blue. I think I would have ultimately preferred the Naturales palette of 36 because their more earthy delicate colours are the ones I prefer!

    I think they have unnecessarily hamstrung themselves by not including oxgall so these aren’t behaving as their other paints. I will add oxgall so they move better.

    • @GlendaVGarcia
      @GlendaVGarcia 4 місяці тому

      I am curious as to why they didn’t try using synthetic oxgall which would still make the paints vegan if that was their main goal. I’m unsure as to why they made these decisions and what their main use is meant to be. Neither gouache nor watercolour… Doesn’t flow but is also not opaque. My only guess is that they may be trying to emulate either more eastern traditional watercolours or they know something we don’t know… I’ll have to play with them more to figure these paints out. And I will definitely be experimenting with some oxgall, I’ve been wanting to try the one from QOR. Thanks for the comment!

    • @ladyflimflam
      @ladyflimflam 4 місяці тому

      Yes, the QOR synthetic is the one I buy. I may also get some of their watercolor medium. It’s aquazol which is the binder QOR is using and their watercolors move and do tricks like no other.

    • @GlendaVGarcia
      @GlendaVGarcia 28 днів тому

      I guess it depends on how you use gouache. Some use it very watery in layers and that would definitely work this way. But those you like using it in mass-tones in a graphic manner might not. I don't think we can honestly say to try it this way and you will get the full gouache experience but it's a nice approximation. Kremer are handmade and extremely pigmented, so you can get a closer experience that with a brand like Sennelier that is extremely smooth, very finely mild and transparent, but Kremer, they are not very luminous at all, they are on the opposite side of the spectrum so you can definitely try it that way.

      It was Quin Gold, Buff Titanium, Zirconium Blue, Quinacridone Violet, Harbor Blue, and Ruby Red. That being said, I almost immediately after a couple of paintings decided to remove Titanium Buff because I never used it in that mix, and I removed Zirconium blue because I love the colour but it was too delicate for the other colours and I was using too much of it. I replaced those 2 colours by a true red Scarlet Red and YInMn Blue. I get a more balance palette that way, much versatile. But I haven't played with it much.

    Awesome triad. Thanks for a lovely video and story. My weakness is historic pigments and I recognise the danger in maybe the work could just disappear. Of course this is true of everything, but that colour could just vanish …… looking forward to seeing whatever you decide to add. Happy New Year!

    Hi Glenda, another question 😊 I am interested in Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber and Venetian Red. How opaque are the colours, could I use them like Gouache (when using them with only a tiny amount of water)

      I now bought some earth colours for creating landscapes and the colours are amazing. So creamy and vibrant, the creaminess comes from glyzerine and honey. By the way, they don’t contain biozides, maybe this info is interesting for you. Biocides can cause allergies, I was looking for a brand without them, because I have to paint indoors, Kremer is the only one. With the Kremer Titanium white now I can create semi-opaque colours. It depends on the pigment. It’s lots of fun. I also love the history of the natural pigments, it’s a special feeling to use genuine natural pigments. Thank you for this swatching demonstration, it’s very useful because I NEED some more colours 😂

    You camera quality is really good , the color look to be very the real color. Usually the cameras change a lot of blues , ad magentas especially the turquoises!!!! They look to be very soft paint, the color are pretty!!! why you don't like mop brushs? I discovered that I'm very sensitive person that I preffer more shine than mat finishs in the wood to the toutch , some plastics in the mops could be a little bit irritate in my cuticle of my middle finger, than I fell more bad about being a sensitive person that look that we are very annoing person , but I 'm still in pres school of water colors and chinese ali express brush, art material in Brasil are expensive. Happy new year

      Olá! Como vai? Thank you so much for noticing! I use my phone, but I do have some good daylight bulbs. I'm not good at using colour correcting software and it's a pet peeve of mine to see people swatching and knowing the colours are off. So I often film during the day with indirect sunlight next to my window and also use the artificial daylight bulbs, that's what makes all the difference. I think we all have our preferences, I can use different brushes but I prefer Round Kolinksy Sable or imitation sable with a nice spring to them. Mop have their uses but I find them too floppy for my taste. They are however really good for painting loose and large so I do own a couple of them. I use inexpensive synthetic brushes all the time I only feel the difference when I either need to paint small details or thin lines or need to fill out large areas with a wash. That's when I realize I need several sizes of synthetic brushes to do what a single Kolinsky Sable brush in size 10/12 can do. Synthetics can do what real sable can, it just takes more steps.

    I got the basic 12 set and they were very receptive to changing a few of the colors for me I even ordered 2 extra pans Buff Titanium and Royal Yellow and switched out the greens and got a Teal, a Scarlet Red, and Gold Ochre. I like these paints a lot, but I have not ordered more because of the cost. For a handmade paint they are reasonable, but I love DaVinci paints of California and they are professional grade and reasonably priced too! Thanks for showing these off. I hope you post the next project you do with these paints!

      12 is a good way to go and I'm happy to hear they are receptive to personalizing selections. I am currently spliting the large palette into several little ones to start using them more often, otherwise the paints feel too precious in this large tin and the number of colours overwhelming. It also makes them easier to take out en plein air, which is my favourite activity. It's winter right now in Montreal so I'll likely only start doing plein air in a couple of months so it will take some time before I can post anything using these paints.
